I wonder if anyone else here has read Douglas R. Mason or Daniel F. Galouye? Their 60's-70's pulp sci-fi feel makes them a bit cheesy but very charming and in many cases, quite profound. I'd recommend Lords of the Archon right off the bat if you want some crazy fever-dream dystopian nightmare. There's also Dark Universe, Five Against Utopia, and Matrix.
