He’s probably read Plato at least

Don't read comics, but Nolan's Batman is clearly a Platonist. Although all of Nolan's heroes are Platonists, so maybe that isn't quite indicative of the comics.

Not that anon, but Plato emphasized a social order with harshly-enforced rule of law, dedication to martial prowess and intellectual improvement, and strict stratification of society into a technocratic class system. Batman is a "philosopher-king" at the top of Gotham's social ladder who enforces the law by beating the shit out of criminals with his bare hands after outsmarting them with science and deductive reasoning.

I first noticed it watching Interstellar, which is damn near just an adaptation of the Republic. Noble lies, gold silver and bronze people, collectivized reproduction, a scientist/philosopher king/queen, a world of forms, everything. I actually got an A+ on a paper in grad school about the forms where I basically just explained that sequence in the tesseract. Since then I've noticed a lot of the same stuff running through all this other work. Noble lies all over the place, coldly rational characters sacrificing for the greater good, an obsession with justice and the problems presented by time/change. Not always as specific as Interstellar, but always in the same spirit.

I like it how the writer had to bolden and italicize Platonic to give the dialogue intellectual clout to impress the soiboys.

you can't be a platonist and care about atheist democracy. Atheists don't seem grasp this.

He shouldn't read. You would think he learned enough of philosophy through his extremely uncomfortable and turbulent life.

Morrison is based. He also wrote the best Batman run of the century so far. I agree this dialogue is stilted but I think he wants to make it absolutely clear what the New Gods are. Regardless, it’s quite common for people to preside Morrison’s Batrun and shit on Final Crisis

>> No.17524507

>>17522535
Morrison strikes me as really conventional, or traditional in that he still wants to write those big blocky conceptual "what if batman was shrunk!, what if the flash could only speak backwards for a day!" stories you get in 50's-70's comics, except all the low hanging fruit is gone so you end up with "what if Batman had to practice tantric semen retention to stop an information virus!".
