I want to start learning the Japanese language in more depth for literary and philosophical purposes - reading the Kyoto School guys in the original mainly. What are the most comprehensive books someone would need to learn the language in-depth?

>Japanese language in more depth
So I assume you're pretty decent?
>reading the Kyoto School guys in the original mainly
Well I guess we share the same goal, fellow kyotoschool-appreciator
>What are the most comprehensive books someone would need to learn the language in-depth
There is no "must read" books for learning. Just read whatever you're interested in

I'd also like to learn Japanese, but in order to read Please Don't Bully Me Nagatoro in its original language.

There's a really helpful three volume grammar dictionary compiled by Makino and Tsutsui. It's not cheap, though.

If you can already read Japanese decently just start reading some literature with a dictionary by your side to look up words and you'll start getting good at it

The hardest part of learning Japanese for me has been simply learning to notice and hear symbols and sounds. The best tool for overcoming it has been immersion - reading and listening.

>is there a textbook for learning Japanese?
Yes obviously. Look up Genki.

The Japanese can just speak Black English after they accept diversity. Why continue their racist language?

I mean who’s even in the school of value beyond Nishida? Isn’t there a ton of work on his developments in English?

Nishitani? Tho I haven't read that much from him
Reading kyoto school provides a good context for other japanese guys like Watsuji or Yuasa who technically do not belong to the lineage of the school but the influence is obvious

I haven’t heard of them honestly, Kyoto is as far into the Japanese philosophy as I’ve gone and also a bit of the post modern surge that Japan had. What do you think of those two?

I want to learn enough Japanese to go to Japan and play mahjong and get killed by yakuza after I take so much money from people. What do?

If you were intrigued by Nishida's takes on self and place then Watsuji expanded on that with his notion of in-between-ness (and yes this this inspired by Heidegger's mitsein).
Yuasa has some interesting writings on self-cultivation and the body. I guess you can say he's the most 'pragmatic'? At least that is my impression after some parts of his "The Body: Toward an Eastern Mind-Body Theory".
