I've been satisfied with nearly every recommended read on this board EXCEPT this pile of dogshit. I wouldn't even consider this anthology as horror, just some melancholic characters that have a ~creature encounter~ that lasts a few pages.

What is some good folk horror anon? The cover looks interesting but since you said it's bad...

What makes you think anyone here read any of those books? Because some NEET downie had some hours to kill to copy and paste into MSPaint?

Its more twilight zone than horror, but the Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon is good

I included it in the horror charts I’ve made bc I liked his second collection Wounds, and bc that one won a bunch of awards. It also had a ton of good reviews on goodreads.

Those were the general criteria for inclusion when it came to books i hadn’t read. Had I read other work by the same author that was good? Had the book been nominated for either the Bram Stoker or Shirley Jackson award? How many reviews did it have on goodreads and Amazon, and what was the consensus score.

I’ve read at least some stories from a good portion of these, but definitely a bunch are there on the strength of their reputation.

are you braindead? What about this book tells you horror? This is obviously just a collection of folk tales.

You included a book you never even read into a recommendation chart. Think that over a bit.

I think it's definitely more fitting as "weird" than horror in retrospect. Truly, I only enjoyed 2 out of the 9 short stories. The third story, 'S.S.' epitomizes my confusion and frustration with this book as the plot goes all over the place with little to no explanation.

So I started reading Lovecraft recently and I've really enioyed it. What are some other horror authors worth moving on to?

What’s the issue? I’m not trying to just give a list of my favourite books, I’m trying to give a survey of a genre. I’ve read a pretty wide variety of stuff, but I’m also just familiar with the reputation of a lot of stuff I haven’t read. There are reviewers and authors who’s opinion are trust, and if there is a consensus among a few of these different indicators that’s good enough for making a 4chan chart.

I’m not just making a chart about something I know nothing about.

>>17391593
It depends what aspects of Lovecraft you like, but I’d definitely recommend also reading the people he was directly inspired by, Machen, M.R. James, and Algernon Blackwood.

Penguin memes use the subtitle line far too much. They're not that common on the Classics covers.

I'm intrigued by The Cipher. Did you read that one, and if so, what did you think?
