checked. the /p/ issue has sold only 3 copies.
yeah so i do want to change printers.
the reason i'm not on blurb or Lulu yet is because they both require me to have inDesign. so i pirated that and will teach myself how to use it. MagCloud is actually owned by Blurb, but the nice thing about MagCloud is that you can just upload a PDF without having to mess with inDesign and bleeds etc.

i was almost finished putting together this issue when Canva suddenly started charging me to render PDFs so i had to quickly pay for Canva to save the issue.

the Canva/MagCloud set up is good for amateurs like us to produce our own magazine, we don't need actual design skills,
we just make the project in canva, get the pdf, and give it to magcloud. done.

an InDesign/Lulu set up would require us to design the magazine in Adobe (the covers and the contents) and upload it all to Lulu. it sounds like this could bring the price down per issiue about $4.

so probably what i'll do is this: continue Canva/MagCloud until the summer; one of the other editors is going to be Editor-in-Chief for 005 (they will choose submissions, arrange articles, design the covers (or delegate any of this work) etc.
during this time i will likely try to teach my myself Adobe and attempt to create a template for &amp so that by 006 ew can use the new setup. i'd like to know what anons think though.
if i kicked the bucket or quit, i think the former system would work best for /lit/izens but also, anybody can make another site and make their own edits or offer cheaper copies (if that happens i'll probably try to get my act together for the Lulu sooner)

>>/lit/thread/17258375
if you read the entire thread, which is a bit of work, you'll get the full picture. the tl;dr is this:
anons invent a fictional universe of writers, thinkers, philosophers, and their works, and pretty much just banter about and create responses, refutations, analyses, essays etc in this canon.
i assume that it will grow overtime but tomorrow i'm going to make a /hyperlit/ thread and try to get the same momentum going that they had before. from that i'll probably spend sunday night making fake book covers and writing some fake essays lel.

yeah absolutely that sounds fantastic.
the general idea i think is this: /hyperlit/ should stand on its own, outside of &amp. the breads that we bake up and the warosu leftovers can form the backbone of the canon and from there we should be able to consolidate all of the material in one place specific to the project.
&amp will have a /hyperlit/ feature where notable materials and discourses can get published, kind of like a journal.
the scope of &amp and /hyperlit/ can overlap but they must remain independent projects that stand on their own.

Hello Gorkoniker anon, I appreciate your work. What did you think was missing in the last thread? Going into the thread (I was the Op and the guy who created Pugliesi and elaborated somewhat on Najder's character) IU was trying to shill the writers I created less so others could create more writers, but we just got less traction. I think we might need to add a rule that one must describe his fake philosophy or concepts, otherwise it's just word salad.

a lot of Issue 002 was essentially stolen from /p/. i can get away with it because i wagered that those anons would not sue me.
eventually, we will become very vulnerable to that kind of thing unless we guarantee that all the work inside is licensed. even then big publishers run into problems all the time.
i don't really have a problem taking stuff off 4chan and putting it in the public domain, but the more popular the project gets the more controversy that will generate.
other small things: some faggot could go and trademark the logo and attempt to stop me from using it. there are a lot of little examples like this that make it fundamental that we don't profit from the sale of the magazine.

we can bring the price down in a few ways.
we can make the periodical smaller, that will reduce our total page count and therefore the printing price. it seems this is not something the community was too interested in.
alternatively we can change printers.
in order to do that, i have to learn InDesign better and then actually produce the magazine itself in InDesign. if we use Adobe InDesign, we can print via Lulu or Blurb directly. that would save us about $4 on the printing costs per magazine.
right now we print via MagCloud, which is extremely simple, we just send them the pdf and they do the rest,
if we print via lulu then we need to render the the magazine and the covers differently and according to the templates the printer provides.

the idea is, once there are about a year or so worth of issues under our belt, i will attempt to shop the magazine to advertisers and perhaps even investors. i have experience taking online stores into profitability however this project is a little different because it is community driven.
there will come a time this year when the magazine 'gets noticed' by an element greater than just 4chan's anons and that will be the time during which i will try to market it. until then its just up to me to make sure the quality stays high enough until we get there.
once the magazine is earning money,
