Currently reading this one. Pretty based. By the last chapter already. Have you read him? Do you like it and/or the author? What do you think about Thomism? I think it's pretty daring to say Thomism pretty much solves all questions posed on metaphysics even after his death. But well...

Besides, do you think Thomism is still a valid philosophy? How does it compare to Kierkegaard's? I do think the autistic ox fucks his little twink ass every time he wants, tho

Nobody thinks anything about Thomism for one very simple reason. Only extreme autists actually read his stuff. The guy wrote thousands upon thousands of pages of dense philosophy, who the hell actually wants to read through all that? And I'm not saying this to be disparaging or edgy or ironic. I'm dead serious. Nobody save for an extreme minority of people (of which I would bet a fair amount of those people would fall on the spectrum) actually want to read his writings.

It's perfectly readable if you skip the endless objection/answer format and just go for his own explanations (which stand on their own).
People meme about the length but his complete works are not any longer than many, it's just that it's concentrated in a dozen books (and a third of it in one).
Most of the interest would be in metaphysics and morals too. Plebs can skip the treatise on angels.

Lol at the title
What's it about?

Metaphysics and how some philosophers have treated it. Gilson defends that problems arise as this happens throughout history. Clearly pro-Thomist (the final solution for all the problems is Thomism, lol)

Gilson is based, thomism is extremely based. But I can’t find this book in French, is it a compilation of some sort?

Gilson is a strictly thomiste philosopher, with only a small influence from other theologians such as Bonaventura.

So my teacher wants us to answer these 2 questions and show our reasoning. Any help would be apreciated:

1. Does Aquinas' thought get to refute methaphysicial essencialism?
2. Thomas' thought answers to all questions on the life of men, or can Kierkegaard contribute with anything new?

He wrote that book directly in English (it was a request from leaves). It's a translation of L'Etre et l'Eseence with minor changes for an anglo audience.

It's Etre et l'essence I think in french. Gilson himself translated it (slightly abridged it too) into English as Being and Some Philosophers.
