She's such an intelligent women too, works in law. Her taste in books seems strange to me.

Why do I have an elitist view on something as trivial as books?

Women and men are different, anon. You just have to accept it. My wife is relatively intelligent too, but she reads probably 3 or 4 YA/genre books to every literary work she reads.

True.

Also, the good attorneys are rarely the truly intelligent ones, they're just the ones who followed the path without questioning.
Intelligent people in Law tend to have some other career or passion that they follow in their free time. No one is truly passionate about law.

>> No.17320731

>>17320672
The majority of people are very ignorant about any discipline outside theirs. Lawyers probably don't know much about medicine, doctors don't know much about finance, economists don't know much about music theory, etc. They just know a lot about what's relevant to their jobs. Sometimes their jobs can require complex knowledge so we assume they must be very cultured and intelligent but not really.

>> No.17320790

>>17320731
It's worse than just that. People think getting into law school means you're some wise being. That may be true for the top 14 law schools, but it's not true for the retards who go to some school ranked 80+ who literally takes anyone no matter what their LSAT score was.

This happens in a lot of professions. But what you probably see as big picture grasping is really a dangerous deviation. Better to have your drive operating inside the structure than try to reinvent the wheel outside.

>> No.17326886

Yeah OP, I'm gonna replicate some of the sentiments in this thread, women and men are just different creatures. Both my dad and sister are into film, but when my dad sits down to watch a movie, he only watches kino, whereas my sister will watch both kino and schlock, she just "likes it." On the other hand, my dad can't stomach to watch the schlock. The same can be said with me and my reading--I've tried to read sci-fi/fantasy after I got more into "serious" literature, but I just can't enjoy it anymore. It's vulgar and deadening to the faculties. Same can even be said of music. My aunt and her son are both pianists, and while my aunt often intersperses some of the more canonical music with popular favorites, my cousin almost only plays more serious avant-garde stuff, or at least Bach and Beethoven. In some ways being a woman is a blessing and being a man is a curse--women are much less sensitive when it comes to the aesthetic faculties, and therefore are able to enjoy a wider range of art. But I wouldn't give up being a man for this reason: to know that I'm sharpening my faculties whenever I sit down to read a book, and that I'll always disregard something if it disagrees with my sensibilities. Men are more visual creatures than women are, it's baked into our DNA. During sex, men are about the image, while women are more about the feeling of security. Not to say that this is always the case, it's just a general heuristic.
