This is a thread for the discussion of different art forms and related literature.
Please try to center the discussion around books on the topic at hand and keep the art related discussions in this threads.
Previous thread: >>17291011

I will start by recommending the book The Hisotry of Art Sculpture by Germain Bazin for a great overview on the topic.

We can't keep meeting like this :(
We need a dedicated board for this kind of stuff.

>> No.17299800

>>17299785
True, but until we get one this is the board with the highest number of anons that have some geniune artistic interests, and we can try to center the discussion around books which is not that bad.

I understand, a shame though.
Well, anyway, in terms of art related books, I'm really interested in Giorgio Vasari's Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects.
Google has a free version of the book and I can probably find other copies of it elsewhere so I definitely have no excuse to not read it. I can't speak Italian though so I'll have to rely on English translations. Might buy a physical copy too.

Have any anons read this book? Was it good? Does it have "personality" like Herodotus' Histories or is it dry?

I have had it in my list for quite a while too, I would expect it to be quite dry knowing the time, but have heard it is an esesential read, so maybe it's more engaging than I think.

That's such a wonderful painting. Last year I could visit the Prado Museum during an exposition dedicated to this piece.
The dignity and firmness of the men about to be shot is really striking when you look at it next to the executions of the 3 of May of Goya.
I find it to be a wonderful reminder of how costly the liberties we take for granted now truly were, and how indebted we are to the brave people who made this world a better place in our sake.

/his/ and /lit/ are the closest we have to an intellectual board devoted to discussing art.
/ic/ is user produced art, and while that's cool, it's all anime, porn, and shit lol.
/p/ is photography and is better in terms of user produced art but not necessarily cultured.
/mu/ is pretty good but too far away from what we're talking about.
/tv/ is retarded.
/po/ is about fucking origami lol.

Maybe if we had at least two dozen more boards that would be a viable option but as it stands you sound like a brainlet.

Philosophy and Theology/Religion have produced some of the most interesting and most readable books to ever exist. It's no wonder why people would rather discuss A Critique of Pure Reason than, say, Robinson Crusoe.
Kant's philosophy has more to offer than any simple story.

How does a general dilutes the overall discussion on a board?
If anything it contains many off topic discussions and keeps the board cleaner.
Everyone talking about /p/, /po/ or /ic/ either hasn't even clicked on those boards or doesn't give a fuck about the intellectual discussion of art, which is inextricably linked to literature by the way.

How are you going to contain the discussion in a general? When some anon wants to talk about his favorite artist and everyone in the general ignores him, are you going to hunt him down and kill him when he starts his own thread about his favorite artist?

A philosophy general or a bible general would make the board cleaner, we have lots of random threads on those topics. We do not have a glut of art threads cluttering the board for a general to clear up.

Do you always just assume everyone else has no clue? It really makes you look kind of stupid.

I do agree with you that most of the discussions on those boards are trash. But if you will make a sincere thread then you will definitely get responses.
If you want to make a weekly thread on /p/ or /lit/ then you have to advertise it on other art boards to build a "patrician" community.
I would suggest you to make this thread on /p/ because it is a slower board and more close to visual arts.

I understand valueing a work of art higher than a human life.
But honestly, don't. Write a story about a guy who would have commited suicide after an art reading instead. It seems you have a vague plot already set out in your mind. Please do that rather than actually offing yourself, it would probably make for a much more interesting piece of art. And if it's not, atleast you live on to make better art and move on to other works.

To be honest when I worked with clay in school it was really fun. I guess I could start with that.

Also yeah I'll start small. To be honest I'm willing to atleast try anything as long as it doesnt cost many thousands of euros to just try it out.

Art Nouveau is troublesome
It marks the beginning of industrialized art and rampant eclecticism. Its extreme manifestation in veinna would inspire the modernist "purification" of ornament

There is nothing to interpret. A surface level representation of a chivalric ideal, the feminine beauty imbued in white representing values like chastity and purity.
I don't know this particular painting, but I'm thinking neoclassicism, probably English.
If made in the 1800s it's simply not interesting enough. If made more recently then it's just a farce.
