Honestly it's not that hard to believe if you actually believe God exists. The way I see it is this:

>God chooses/creates (I don't mind which) two hominids within the last ~25,000 years.
>They live in blessed communion with the divine creator as His creatures, bringing about his rule on Earth as His image.
>He provides them with the tree of life so that they don't die (unlike their ancestors/creatures around them)
>Through some cosmological event they reject God's rule and His purposes.
>Is response God removes the tree of life from their presence, so they can't life forever anymore
>Somehow whatever the tree of life did remained in homo sapiens remained for a few generations and they lived longer than we do now
>God limits human age to ~120 years, I think there is a Bible verse for this

Some time after these events God reveals His plan of salvation through the Jews in Christ to Abraham, and then we get the rest of the Bible. I don't think this is that crazy, I don't think we'd find any genetic/archaeological evidence to falsify this so I know it's just a 'likely story' but it works with what we know about the history of the universe and what God has revealed to us.
