If you have tenure, don't let your superiors abuse you
Grammar in times of old was a much broader term
Be really careful with your spouse choice
If your spouse is for the lack of a better word toxic, keep your kid away from them
Yeah, no, I didn't really get anything that wasn't abundantly obvious, I'm a philistine

Impotence is cowardice. Stoner wasted his whole life never standing up for himself, the ones he loved, or the things that mattered to him.

He stood his ground in the university. He followed his heart. He did the best he could for his daughter. He lived for his passion which was literature.

>He did the best he could for his daughter.
He let her go without a fight, and in the most melodramatic way possible she becomes an alcoholic slut as a result

That Americans are mediocre writers and they shouldn't be allowed to publish (Longfellow, Pound, Poe excepted).

If you read the book there was plenty Stoner could have done, about every aspect of his life. There is nothing tragic about him.

There will be hard choices, there is always regret.

That’s the tragic part. That’s what’s tragic about Stoner

It’s not tragic because he doesn’t even seem to care. He’d rather suffer at work for 40 years than placate a co-worker once. He’d rather let his wife turn his daughter into an alcoholic slut instead of opening his mouth. I don’t see anything honorable about stoner. He was a loser who wanted to be a loser. He wanted a job where he could read and write all day. If that’s why you guys like him that’s sad

All of these things were actually missing from the book anyway. It’s just bad things happening to someone who doesn’t care because of his bad choices that he doesn’t care about. Stoner is a robot and is happy to die at the end of the book. There was no hope so there can be no tragedy.

Farewell to Arms is a tragedy. Know the difference
