Bin Laden was friendly toward them, in fact a masscre of Shias (the Sabra and Shatila massacre) motivated him heavily against America. He was friends with Soleimani and his children were kept in Iran. However Iran later took his family as hostage and so he kidnapped an Iranian diplomat to free them. The relationship soured because most of the Iraqi resistence to America was Sunni whereas the Shia in Iraq obviously hated Saddam and loved America coming there even though Iran didn't. This made American proxies in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Shia and turned the fight sectarian. Iran took Bin Laden's family hostage in order to pressure him to get AQ in Iraq (which would later become ISIS) to stand down fighting Shia militias there
