I prefer reading eBooks, and I had to throw out most of the books I owned as a child/teenager due to becoming homeless for a while.

Not him, but I'm of mixed minds on this. Certainly these threads can turn into a circlejerk of 'look at my books' and 'this anon is a pseud haha,' But several times in the past I've also learned of books I was unaware of by looking at anons' shelves and asking them about them. That seems to happen less and less these days but I don't think that it *never* happens anymore, and there can still be some value here. My own compromise is to only post my shelves 2 or 3 times a year; not really a comfortable resolution but it works well enough for me.

Tarot Cafe is by my favourite Manhwa creator, but that's more because of the art than because of her writing. It's gorgeous. The story is cute. I love the way the tarot weaves in and out of the narrative. She does a version of cards from famous decks at the beginning of each story and the way she changes her art style each time is a really effective hook.

Angle Sanctuary is my favourite Kaori Yuki series. Because it's Kaori Yuki, the main pairing is an incestuous brother and sister, but that's okay because they're actually both reincarnated- yeah, anyway. At the end you find yourself cheering them on. It's this long complicated saga of the brother travelling to Heaven and Hell to bring back his murdered sister's soul. It's incredibly twisty with dozens of characters, gorgeous art, bizarre takes the mangaka has on Western mythology... it's a fantastic read. I highly recommend it.

>I find that very humorous. What is wrong with your publishers?
I dont know, its pretty retarded. Its basically favors right handed readers. The German Wikipedia article "Buchrücken" argues, that the text from bottom to top is more efficient to find a specific title in a shelf (cover is the first thing you see when you take a book out of the shelf) and text from top to bottom is better for a stack (cover on the top and being able to read the title from the side). But this argument doesnt make sense (atleast for a left handed person like me), because it only holds true for right handed persons tilting their head to the left and using their left hand to grab the book. A left handed person also grabs the book with their left hand (atleast me), but normally tilts their head to the right, so the advantage of the text from bottom to top is lost. Seeing the cover first doesnt depend on the text, but rather on the hand you are using.

Not him, but Waugh is a 20th century English writer, whose best works came out between the 20s and 60s. He was born into a relatively aristocratic family, and had fun with homosexuality in his youth an university days, and later became a conservative trad-cath reactionary who hated Vatican 2. He is one of the best chroniclers of the 'bright young things' set, and he did some very good and novel travel writing and helped expand that 'genre' into literary respectability. His most famous book is probably "Brideshead Revisited" which is very good and well worth reading.

i really dont know, and honestly find values like that totally arbitrary and unlinked to one's actual processing power/reading comprehension.
i have always endorsed the idea that one should take their time with texts that are worth it and that one should skip entirely texts that arent. i really value quality over quantity; having said that, i find it remarkable how little quantity is actual covered by a lot of /lit/'s posters--the ones who rely on things like number of words read, number of books read, etc.
that is not the essence of reading and i think it is contrary to a healthy relationship with knowledge.

i cover a lot of ground thoroughly simply because i read exactly what i want to read at any given time and consume it passionately. you'd be astonished how many words/books you can cover if you are pursuing questions and ideas you actually want to pursue.

i have a full-fledged method of annotation that i've developed over years and really, really works for me. certainly there are many worthwhile methods out there; i can only speak to my own. it helps me dissect a text fairly quickly in a way i can return to later on (and i annotate those texts i intend to return to and engage); as a result, i tend to vacillate wildly per reading/text--i take my time, underline, reflect, go back on certain sections, etc.
pointing to a consistent WPM or something like that would be really hard and wouldn't really represent what i do/how i read. it's all too dependent on what is being read, for what purpose, and so on.
if i am not reading for annotation purposes, if i am reading something like a work of fiction that i don't want to eventually teach/talk about, i can cover roughly a novel (e.g. something the size of mrs. dalloway, or remains of the day, etc.) in about a day. longer novels take longer; deeper novels take longer; etc.

i do not own a single book i have not written in/do not intend to write in and annotate.

I bought Electronic and Experimental Music after downloading the chapter on the RCA synthesizer, which is absolutely amazing, was fairly disappointed by the rest of the book. Does not really go into that same sort of detail anywhere else. I also dislike how it is inconsistent regarding explaining techniques, but it is more a history book so can not really complain there.

Decent book overall, but know one has really covered the topic well and you really need many sources to get an overview.

If you have Telegram look up Chaos Press, most of the edgier and rare books I have came from them, plus they make the PDF of it available for free, it's a wonderful work. Thing is the print press they use, Lulu, usually cancels their projects within 2 weeks and then you need wait until they open another account.

I know it looks like I have a singular obsessive hyperfocus, and these days yes I do, but really it's just me making up for a lifetime of consuming neo-liberal propaganda and otherwise wasting my love of reading on pop fiction like King and GRRM. This is an overreaction but I also act as a sort of librarian of wrongthink for my friends who don't want to be put on a list for ordering this type of shit, which I'm most definitely on.
Got three books on loan atm, Hitler pour Mille Ans by Degrelle, Myth of the 20th Century by Rosenberg and Revolt Against The Modern World.
