To any of the published authors out there, would you be genuinely upset if your copyright ended with your death?

Not an author, but I imagine many would, as the works continue to make money for the deceased individual's family well after his death.

No I couldn't care less.
I get paid to translate and write novels but that's not where my income comes from.

copyright is monopoly on information.

If I'm dead, I wouldn't care because I would be fucking dead, man.

If I ever write anything, I'll have delusions of it being so important to philosophical discourse, that I'd be positively antipathic toward the idea that any "intellectual property rights" could get in the way of its printing and availability to the public.
Life + 70 years is a ludicrously long copyright term.

I'd be satisfied with a hard limit of copyright X number of years after a creator's death, but unending corporate control over IP represses the natural adoption and recontextualization of imagery in the cultural process and is inhuman.

If I was one, no. Even if I had a family. The fuck? Go to work you lazy fucks. What, my family can't sustain itself without my royalties? Eat shit, I hope you don't go to uni and change your tune when you can't find any affordable books that you need to pass the semester. Daddy got so pissed, I might even put my shit in the public domain while I still live.

As long as they know it was me, the book should be free.

No. Copyright is a function of the slimy late-capitalist structures which are diluting art to the point of mundanity. I would be entirely content to never make a cent off anything I write as long as it means nobody else would either.
