Physics has given a few privileged ones the illusion of understanding a very limited area of their domain of expertise so they could impose their technological madness and forced despair upon the rest of the people while being immune to all possible criticisms. Metaphysics has given hope and meaning to every man who opened his heart to the search for truth, freeing them in the process.

He's right. He's not even being harsh enough. Biological drives explain the majority of bullshit that philosophy has wasted its time on since its inception. The feeling of consciousness, or "morality," love, search for "meaning," etc are all just misinterpreted biological urges. I hate Lawrence krauss more than almost anybody. People like this -working as scientists- literally do not even understand that the process of science is based on certain philosophies that were generated by human beings. These are the sorts of people who lend credence to the crazies who describe science as a religion, people who have very little knowledge of the actual inner workings of it and who think that things that scientists have nearly no knowledge about can be explained by science. They don't know much about philosophy eitherStatements like:
>metaphysics intends to find out the physical nature of the universe
>most of the things philosophers spend time on is emotions
Display a complete lack of knowledge about the actual history of philosophy. Further, statements like:
>physics gives us a single clear picture of the universe
>feelings like a search for meaning is simply a biological urge which modern biology can fully explain
Are obviously wrong and display a complete lack of knowledge about the current state of physics and biology.

Your mental model of the world is twisted by whatever religious ideology you were indoctrinated into as a child. You need to break out of this box of we can even communicate. A human is a biological organism no different from an insect, a plant, a single bacterium. none of these things have souls and "consciousness" is not "real" - you just feel like you are in the driver's seat. this impression is evolutionarily beneficial. that's all there is to it. if feeling like a Borg hivemind was better, you'd feel that way. it's a feeling. a collection of evolved physical structures in the brain and the biochemistry within them creates the impression

>consciousness is an illusion you feel from within the biochemical process you perceive to be "you"
That literally doesn't explain anything. Yes, chemicals can influence our state of consciousness but that doesn't explain consciousness itself. Why do chemicals feel? There's nothing that says we have to experience light hitting us at certain wavelength as the color red.
>You don't even understand what morals really *are* ... biological programming. see pic related
But that doesn't say how we should live. It says that biology can explain how we feel about things. Although our ethics change depending on culture. Likewise Evo psychology can literally explain everything and by that it can explain nothing. You can pick any behaviour and shortly write a evopsy story about it that goes in conflict with other evopsy stories.

The experience of consciousness has nothing to do with determinism or free will. It has everything to do with awareness. You are actually free to the extent that things are under your purview, and you are not free to the extent that externals dictate your behavior and inner state. e.g. you are more free alone than in company, you are more free the stronger executive control you have over your impulses, etc

Your entire approach is based on proving to yourself that you are a conscious being and not a collection of the observable material universe. consider the possibility that you are confused by the "philosophical" mysteries because you are a hunk of material that believes it is something *more* because this feeling is beneficial to the genes that comprise it. from this beginning point, there is absolutely no need for a soul. this is observable reality. the premise that you have a soul is a product of this illusion that biology created. there is Nothing special about Humans, at all. there is no line in the sand where consciousness begins. an ant, a man. no different. no souls, nothing metaphysical

Classical physics is insufficient to explain quantum mechanics, so we reach a point of unbridgeable schism between the material and the metaphysical. Sure, quantum physicists can grasp at understanding the rules of quantum particles and it's not just magic and chaos, but we have to address the fact that the divide is self-evident and the universe is playing by two different sets of rules and one might just be calvinball.
Philosophy is the only reason we even try to comprehend the quantum, metaphysical world that exists almost beyond our ability to directly interact with. The defining scientific debate within the quantum physics community since the inception of the observer effect has been philosophical - realism vs subjectivism.

Type of is nihilism is actually a product of scientific positivism. Where the fuck do you think the scientific method came from? Even then, there are epistemological problems that come from the axiomatic assumptions we make from these ideas - which are important, but are took for granted. Nominalism is an excellent example of this - people eliminate philosophy from science are doing it for very specific, egotistical reasons that need to be questioned because they have implications on their work and what it is used for.

Shut up, stupid. The point is that most scientists do not even realize the philosophical underpinnings of what they’re doing, they truly believe that the scientific method (which they don’t even bother using most of the time) is correct because it just “is.” They don’t even realize that the scientific method could have been formed a different way under different philosophical circumstances - they have no idea of the ways in which it is a socially constructed process and what implications that has on the practice of science

No, it's really not. With a pure math degree you could find really good work doing non technical engineering, like QA work, though you'd probably have to get a little experience as a technician for a year or 2, though the same is true for an engineering student. With that being said, the stem myth is a myth, finding work as an engineer is getting increasingly difficult and you also get a too narrow education, which leads to the condescending attitudes and inflated egos common amongst stemcels.
