Reading science books will teach you more about life than reading philosophy. History is also great for reference.

Where are you so far? I'm about to catch up with the other sources in Spanish history because i use a different source for each country and in a few days I'll delve into the 14th century.

I started with Herodotus and read most of the translated primary sources until the age of Charlemagne, then I gave up on finding primary sources and used secondary sources because most medieval chronicles haven't been translated from Latin. I suggest you to use secondary sources because they combine every original source in a coherent narrative anyway, the primary sources are only useful if you're curious to read about the opinion of each side involved in the wars and conflicts of the period. For instance you can understand that the crusaders hated vehemently the Greeks since the very first Crusade and a lot of made up slanders and fake rumors are reported in the accounts of the chroniclers, but the secondary sources barely allude to these. I also read an Italian source for Italian history and a Spanish one to improve my Spanish skills, while I read everything else in English.

If you actually cared about understanding the past rather than just jerking yourself off on an anonymous imageboard, you'd realize the two fields are inseparable. Studying history without knowing at least something about philosophy and economics is a great way to become a redditor who reads nothing but books on le ebig battles of WWII.
