What is best translation? My edition is the Maude translation but I just wondered if that was good enough or if I should read another instead.

Maude is pretty good, probably the best (it's my favourite at least). Next time you have a translation question just go onto warosu.org and search the book name and the translator's name like "Maude" or "Briggs" or "P&V" and see what people have to say. Or just write in "War and Peace best translation," chances are many people have asked the same questions or there has been a thread that has discussed who is the greatest translator in detail for a specific author and or book.
