i saw moby dick on the top 100 list and decided to check it out. Opened it up and I can't understand any of the english. I couldn't even make it past the extracts. and the foreword and intro basically spoiled the entire book.

Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" is literally the only good piece of literature written during the 18th century. Unless you count "Lyrical Ballads" by Coleridge and Wordsworth as 18th century literature. Which TECHNICALLY it is, but I have always viewed Romanticism as more of a 19th century movement, at least in literature.
