Interesting and it makes sense. We are tribal persons. Part of our sense of self are our attachments. I doubt that one can have as strong of an attachment to McDonald's as they would a religion. Attachment to a nation and culture would be a stronger thing which could compete with attachment to a religion, since in many ways they are the same thing.
