Can we finally admit that he's overrated?

I think thats fair. Grapes of Wrath is great, as is Of Mice and Men and Cannery Row. East of Eden is good, too. A lot of his works are, but some are seen as master works of genius. They're not. He's just good

So better than the memes around here?
Good to know.

If you're not gonna breakdown excerpts of EoE, or at least attempt some kind of exegesis on Adam and Cain, then I will heartily disregard your posts.my friend

I gave up on IJ, GR, Ulysses and, Moby-Dick, yet I've read and enjoyed the majority of Steinbeck. Only couldn't finish Tortilla Flats. I'd say he's under rated on this board. I'm kind of mid-tier, though.

Wtf Is this thread, it's like watching people wait for a bus, you ask a yes or no question and then get a yes and a list, wheres the open form and long ended responses, why is your question constructed in the form of a magnet?

Grapes of Wrath is well written but very boring

I'm not going to have a full length discussion on every Steinbeck book I've read. Like I said, they're good, some moreso than others. That said, he's around the skill level of other American authors at the time, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, even someone like Anderson. They all have their quirks, sure, but they're all similar in talent and scope.

Wtf is this entire board, it's like a bunch of college kids who can only view books through the prism of the vidya they wasted their childhoods on, and they have to grind their way through the different tiers of the entire concept of literature until they defeat the final boss and finally get laid. What colossal fuckery, to be concerned with words like "plebs", "midwit", and "overrated". Do you like books? Then keep reading them. Did you read a book, and think it's great? Congratulations, you're right.

one of my favorite books is canary row. it's super funny and is a cute way of showing that good intentions aren't everything in life.

Cannery Row is one of my favourite books tho. One of the first novels I read for fun instead of school. Really relate to the frustration of conflict between the American working class and the American intelligencia, both of whom despite being well meaning, end up at odds and hurting one another.

lit summary, obvious to some, yet still disregarded, hence the majority of users on this cesspool of a board are mostly retards, who either don't read at all, or need an aproval from these so-called well read people (pseuds)

>mostly retards, who either don't read at all
The more I read I begin to realize how true of a statement this is. Just hop in any thread about the bible for example. I'm convinced most people just parrot wikipedia summaries. Again, not everyone, but it shows when the majority of the threads aren't even about books.

Are you talking about the part where Hazel breaks Doc's arm with a bat? That's a ham-fisted allegory indeed.

I liked: Of Mice and Men, Grapes of Wrath
okay: Cannery Row

I think the Red Pony is underrated. I read through a lot of his short stories. Cannery Row is just an overall better Tortilla flat. The peal is much more of a "high octane" experiment for Steinbeck. Red Pony is comfy and underrated.

Reading grapes of wrath rn and although I hate niggers I really enjoyed the whole scene at the diner with the truck driver and Tom. An the Joad's are kind of a loveable group of niggers so I'm giving it a shot.
