BTFO'd a lot of bell-curve statistics. Basically showed how bell curves form naturally as a perception bias. (the original machine used to showcase a bell curve was a pinball type board with pins hitting a ball. Most balls land in the middle because they're more like to go both left and right as compared to just left or just right) Also talks a lot about various cognitive bias everyone should read up on. Check out black swan

Statistical ideas and Black Swan revolutionary. The rest pretty superficial. Can't write aphorisms for shit. His Twitter rants are cringy. Seems like an aggressive and hostile narcissist.

Really interesting thoughts on risk and responsibility.
I think that if he took his ideas on responsibility further, most of the Silicon Valley would be hanged.

A charismatic cult leader. He poses as independently wealthy to cultivate the image of success which his followers want to achieve. To milk them he runs one-week seminars every year that cost $8,000, something he would not do if he actually had "fuck you money." His particular aesthetic as a self-help guru is risk and uncertainty. He has two main anchors in persuading followers of his credentials here: one is using math as a form of mysticism (showing integrals, equations, etc. and not explaining them in order to appear lofty and kinglike) and the other is referencing classical philosophy to suggest an association between himself and timeless wisdom. A vain man, as all cult leaders are I suppose. Not particularly dangerous as far as I can tell, besides the danger of spending money on him.

Never knew this stuff, but I saw people peddle his books as the greatest new thing. Tried to read them out of curiousity, but it didn't help.

I listened to the audiobook for Antifraglie over the summer since I had to drive an hour and a half every day for work.

I think the idea of antifragility is interesting, but I wish the book was more rigorous. It's really just a drawn out dictionary definition followed by Taleb gloating over how wise he is.

Yes, yes, Taleb. You're so wise. So wise in fact, that you disregarded the advice on not including Nero and Fat Tony in the book and made it all the worse because of it. Such wisdom, very smart.

He's just a butthurt leb Christian, if he was really a mediteraneasit he would realize that the only time the east med and north Africa have ever had political and cultural autonomy was with Islam. All other times that require archeology to understand or are forgotten. Islamic empires were centered on the med, and carried med culture all the way to China. Trade networks of Islamic empires brought citrus to the med, a key feature of modern med cuisine. They only hate Islam because the mid east Christian can't cope with the fact that, at no point in their entire history have they not been at the whims of a stronger culture and society, be it Islamic empires or eurocentric Christian empires. Islam is the key identifier for the majority of the Mediterranean, it is both their faith and the source of their nationalism. Good luck trying to convince a turk not to be proud of the ottomans, or a syrian not to be proud of the ummayads, or a morrocan not to be proud of al-Andalusia.
