The moments with the Gods make Iliad and Odyssey great. Honestly the relations between them is just really fun in both. Just interesting to see these characters interacting. They're all like archetypes. Does anyone else get that feeling?

Picked up the copy from my library the other day and all the names were Roman, what gives?

I love when Zeus threatans all the gods like
"you bitches aint shit. Even if all of you ganged up on me I'd fuck you up. I can pick up the world and dangle it from a strong from Mt. Olympus"
And they're all like 'but DAAAAD I HATE those Trojans, breakers of horses, can't we destroy the city?"
And he's like "I don't give a fuck about what you want, if I so much as catch you helping the strong grieved Achaians i will banish you to the underworld for eternity"
Like Zeus just doesn't give a fuck about anything or anyone. Literal chad god change my mind

Yes, they seemed much more "real" than the parts with human characters, if you catch my drift.

This isn't even a translation thread though...and yes Lattimore for the Illiad but Fitzgerald for the Odyssey and Fagles for the Aeneid is the correct answer

This comment (a weak ad hominem btw) adds nothing to the discussion.
And neither does mine.
So why do you have to come troll /lit/ ?
That's what /b/ is for, either say something intelligent of go to a different board please

I had a laugh at the part in the iliad where Diomedes wounded Ares and he goes up to Zeus and starts bitching about Athena and looking for sympathy and Zeus just tells him straight up that he's his least favorite child

Haven't read The Odyssey yet, but the Iliad is like badass ancient literary anime. It's great.
