I just caught up to HP 7.5 last week..
this whole whore-crutches thing kinda bothered me..
see the first thing I thought was 'Rowling is copying LotRs'. the ring of power is pretty much a horcrux for the sauron, just as voldy needs his various items. sauron only had one object.. the other rings are related to him in a different way. voldy has lots of objects because rowling needed to link various pieces of her books together and whatnot..

what do you think /lit/ ? is the ring of power a horcrux for sauron? is rowling copying (conciously or not) tolken? does my thread need another sage?

pic related, it's the great sage dumbldore.

nah dude the ring isn't a vessel for part of sauron's souul is it? like he 's all in that eye thing in th tower, right?

The whole point of the ring is that it contains a significant portion of Sauron's power, his essence.

I don't think it's the same as a horcrux, but I see the similarity.

why did Voldermort want to kill everyone again?

I saw both of them as taking the typical Necromancer phylactery. It's an object that a necromancer ties his soul to so that if he perishes he can revive again. Sauron was called The Necromancer in The Hobbit.

ah I see.

in potter horcrux seems to a life force anchor..

where as the ring is more of a energy/soul/evil reservoir.

@_@ fiction is so weird.
