Just finished ToM. Why do I have to wait for a damn year for the final book? ;_;

Wheel of Time general, if it pleases the Light

I wish the US had the cool covers instead of those terrible monstrosities Darrell K. Sweet spawns in his hellish lair.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of what I've seen of them.

I've always wondered why they have kept Daniel K. Sweet as the cover artist all these years. Every last one of them is ridiculous and most are inaccurate. Might be that he's had a contract for the whole series from the get go or something, or that he was good friends with RJ.

The ebook covers are pretty sweet though.

pic related, it's the ebook cover for the latest book

Damn, dat Perrin.

What does everyone think of the reforged Rand?

Also, what role do you think Moiraine will play in the Last Battle?

>> No.1695015

>>1695003
The new Rand was quite cool. When he told off Cadsuane, it was one of the more gratifying moments in the whole series, even above Joline getting spanked. I liked that there weren't povs from him (apart from the epilogue), since he's kind of...over the top perfect now. And it helped reinforce the changes to the character.

I have no idea what Moiraine's role will be really. Probably some sort of info dump to Rand (yet again), but I doubt her role ends there.

>Rand
I think he's a pretty cool guy. It's interesting and neat to see him acting not as Rand or Lews Therin, but as the Dragon (in the sense that he is aware that he is not a particular person but a particular soul). The whole "you may call me Rand Sedai" part was awesome.
But there is a nagging little suspicion of mine -- not more than a suspicion, and certainly a dubious one at that -- that he is not entirely right in the head. This first started bothering me when I realized there have been no PoVs from him since Veins of Gold. I...Well, I know he has to be all right -- this is nearly the end, and he has been acting completely fine -- but it still bothers me.

>Moiraine
I had always suspected (along with a fair majority of WoT readers) that it would be Moiraine's return that taught Rand laughter and tears, but I was wrong.
I presume she learned something of great value while trapped in the Finns' world -- perhaps something related to the Seals, or the Dark One's prison.

Crap! I wish I could join this, I started a year ago and have been listening to the audiobooks almost non-stop. I'm on #9, I ended up mixing 5 other books in between, but yeah. I LOVE this series and can't wait to catch up. Hopefully #14 will be out by time I get to it.

Oh god yes, it was, couldn't help but smile at that.

As for Rand's mental state, don't forget that Nyneave delved him after finding out how to cure Madness, and found THOUSANDS of hooks in his mind, but there was that light underneath them. I think that Light has essentially cured his Madness, by acting like a shield, smilar to the protection the Dark One provides his male Chosen.

From the information I've read, the aim is to get it out by next March.

Could be out earlier, at least that's what I'm hoping for, as Sanderson is good at getting stuff done. The pace at which writes stuff is nearly astounding; last year he got two 1000 page monsters published. It's really impressive considering his prose is pretty good. And to be perfectly honest, it's better than Robert Jordan's for the most part.

>>1695029
How long are they on average? Never listened to any of them, as I'm not that fond of audiobooks.

I actually picked up the first book in the Mistborn series a while ago. Should crack it open at some point

>> No.1695050

I like that Sanderson is working very hard on them, but I can't help but feel that things are a bit rushed (e.g., Tower of Ghenjei). I know there is a vast amount to wrap up, even with leaving a plethora of plot threads unresolved, but I really would like him to take his time with the last one and make it the best possible book he could.

>> No.1695083

>>1695050
I think I read somewhere that the Tower of Ghenjei sequence was mostly written by Robert Jordan (with edits of course). But yeah it felt rushed; I was waiting for it for the whole book and when it finally came, it all just happened in a surprisingly low amount of pages. This was especially annoying when you had to plow through a million Elayne chapters.

>>1695049
The Mistborn series was pretty good. The first book was a bit....meh on the storytelling department, but the action scenes and a few main characters make up for it. And the storytelling gets considerably better in the second and third books; there are quite a few major twists throughout the series. It's definitely worth a read if you like fantasy in general.

>> No.1695101

>>1695083
Oh yes on re-reads I never bothered with any Elayne or Perrin chapter from 9 to 11/12. Light those were a dreadful slog.

>> No.1695133

Sanderson's worst part is easily the endings. He's always been massively anti-climactic on that part imo.
His characterization of Mat was also kind of shitty.

>> No.1695135

I don't get this obsession Jordan/Sanderson have with Perrin, he's such a flat, mary sue character. (I won't even start with how annoying the Aes Sedai are). Instead of Perrin he should have just done chapters on Jaim Farstrider, that seems like it would have been a lot more interesting. Not to mention the previous era, where the Aes Sedai had floating cities, giant ter'angreal, and the Forsaken were still uncorrupted.

Also Loial and the Ogier, he gets like 2 paragraphs, very dissapointing. Finally the Black Tower also not enough "coverage" if you will.

Yeah the whitecloak parlaying and the dream training montage were rather.......yeah. Early on I was seriously pissed when his chapters started with the usual "I'm not a leader, I hope I won't turn into a wolf" faggotry. The fight with slayer and the smithing scene+subsequent whitecloak saving kind of made up for it, but after like 6 books of the same old whine, having another half a book with him going on about it was completely unnecessary.
