Who is your favourite 20th century novelist? For me it's Louis Ferdinand Céline, the greatest French novelist along with Flaubert and Stendhal.

Oh you silly guy! What a fool you are; I cannot believe how many penises you kiss, how many bums you lick.... You ephemeral little sausage! you celibate little celebrity! On what galaxy did you tap dance here. Your presence has shaken me to my very core, i'm fond of you! Let us toast to the occasion!

Good combination of portraying the complete destruction and depravity humanity is capable of while being funny and showing glimpses of beauty.

Hermann Broch solely because of Death of Virgil, i'm not that impressed with the rest of his work but that novel is absolutely incredible

He goes into parts of our experience that i've never seen others writers go. The lyricism is incredible also. It got me by the end of the first paragraph.
It's very unusual since it doesn't really have a plot and i only became fully aware of how magnificent it by rereading it. After finishing the book by the first time i had only retained some vague scenes and the poetic atmosphere of it. Then you begin to see more and more of it.

I read that it's almost incomprehensible. Is that true?

>> No.16951386

>>16951348
Not at all.
I read it in my mother tongue (Portuguese) and i found it comprehensible but i can recognize that if a person never had the sorts of experiences he is aiming at it can be hard to understand.
