i've been surprised and really happy with the turnout, too. never thought the first round would peak above 10, but here we are pushing nearly 20. didn't even open it to reddit or any other source, either.
I've been reading them on a rolling basis and have set aside the top three in order to go over them again.
i've certainly enjoyed the submissions so far and given the time frame you indicated then there is definitely a chance you're a contender.

Great news! What are your plans for the future, will you promote it elsewhere? I don't think anyone on /lit/ has not seen one of your posts yet, they have pretty much been constantly up, I am surprised that the mods didn't ban your for that lol

i think im going to expand unto something like reddit next; depending on my ability to gather a couple other anons to become judges, i'd love to expand the competitions outward to include other forms of media/creative endeavors as well as provide greater transparency and more "eyes" viz. the judging process itself.
any and all recommendations or requests viz. prizes or particular forms of competition are very appreciated--would similar prize offering sin the future be of interest to you?

i'm surprised with the mods general patience, too. i've shilled a bunch of these threads and so far only 1 has been pruned. i do intend to cut back now after this first round; i'll post a couple threads over the ensuing months as invitations and reminders for new competitions, but with expansion unto other platforms and hopefully a more stable flow of interest, i intend to pull back my presence on /lit a bit.

Which subreddits are you planning to shill your stuff on? Because the meme is partly true and the majority of redditors sucks ass. I don't know about any literature reddits but the niche and hobby ones I do know are all a bunch of bugmen circlejerking. Maye there are any better forums? Idk about that though. Did you promote your website iver other means in the past?
Would love to be a judge btw, I am not the person you are replying to but I also participated, any ETA of the results?

you've nailed the problem. i actually tried a prototype of even this first round a while back on reddit--the thread didn't even make it, got rejected/not approved by a moderator who took it as too promotional. i thought this was a possible/fair assessment but also thought it sorta missed the point/missed an opportunity.
as a result. i turned to /lit exclusively, in part because i'm used to this board, in part because it really does offer, despite all its setbacks and problems, a group of people who are 1. genuinely good, and 2. genuinely committed to exploring some interesting ideas. outside of my relations IRL/my experience in the academy, there still just isnt much of an alternative to /lit. i hope to address this deficit in part through the (slow) development of my discord and eventually a forum/arena of discourse more associated with the greater pykewater project--ideally, something like a discussion board/art collective/seminar platform with greater moderation.

as far as judging is concerned, i'd love to talk to you more. please shoot me a separate email (pykewater@gmail) indicating your interest and we'll move from there. would love to develop new and interesting competitions as time goes on; very open to suggestions, collaborations, etc.

since i've been reading the submissions on a running basis, and since i don't anticipate a deluge of submissions at this final hour, the ETA will be a couple of days from now, if even that. at this point, i have a good sense of the essays that are real contenders and are going to be re-read and will accomplish that over tomorrow's morning espresso.

the subreddit that rejected the idea wholesale was r/books, btw.

i've posted successfully on r/bookporn and r/bookshelf, but these have been just images of my library and images produced by my production studio--nothing to do with the "pykewater challenge" aspect.

still looking to find the right "hook" into reddit in order to expand visibility/optics. like this board, it has tremendous setbacks and problems of its own; though its reach and benefits are also undeniable, and i still think one could glean yet another dimension of interest and participation through it.

If you’re looking for more subreddits, some author-specific ones might be worth checking out. There’s a good chance someone over at e.g. r/cormacmccarthy or r/thomaspynchon may be interested.

Over 10 years on this sight, haters gonna hate, creepers gonna creep, stalkers gonna stalk, etc.—not much to be done, rally. As far as trolls go, i can’t say it’s a very original or a very startling one. More interested in shilling this competition until midnight than anything else.

How strict is the 11:59 submission? I'll probably be able to get something in by then, but I'd feel I'd have a better submission if I had a little longer than that. If it absolutely has to be in by then I'm fine with it, just wondering.

It’s not strict, not really a stickler for exact deadlines. If you feel like some extra time would make a difference, then go ahead and take it. I’m heading to sleep now, anyway; if I can read it sometime tomorrow I’m happy. Regardless, thanks for the interest in the competition!
