Any books on what Christian "natural law" is?

>> No.16892220

I haven't read it but I think the concept of natural law was popularized by Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica . That's probably a good place to start.

>> No.16892221

This is true though.
Most Christians (not only protestants) define evil as that which is unfamiliar to their world view.
Have you seen the Christians on /pol/? There is no semblance of what is evil or not, simply if it isn't taught in the dialect of mainstream Christians than it is automatically part of a grand anti-Christian conspiracy.

>> No.16892229

>>16892199
It's natural law. God created the universe and saw it as good

>> No.16892245

>>16892221
It's almost like Christianity is a religion or something.

>> No.16892249

«NATURAL LAW» IS A MISNOMER; NATURE DOES NOT DETERMINE WHAT IS GOOD, AND WHAT IS EVIL, BUT, RATHER, WHAT IS GOOD, AND WHAT IS EVIL, HAVE NATURAL FACETS OF MANIFESTATION, BUT IT IS NOT NATURE WHAT MADE THEM GOOD, OR EVIL.

THE EXPLICATION OF WHAT IS GOOD, AND WHAT IS EVIL, CAN BE INFERRED FROM ITS NATURAL MANIFESTATIONS, BUT NOT REDUCED TO THEM, IN WHICH CASE THAT WOULD CONSTITUTE NATURALISM, WHICH IS, OF COURSE, ANTICHRISTIAN.

THE CRITERIA TO EXPLICATE THE GOOD, AND THE EVIL, SHOULD BE METAPHYSICAL, NOT PHYSICAL.

This is fair but naturalism doesn't imply physical just not spiritual.

>Have you seen the Christians on /pol/? There is no semblance of what is evil or not
I wonder how devout the Christians on /pol/ are. Almost every Christian thread on /pol/ is full of insult, cussing, reviling, bickering, and hatred, which is what Jesus and the Scriptures tell us to not do.

On the grounds of "natural" law, Aquinas literally tried to argue that adultery was less of a sin than masturbation because onanism is farther removed from its natural product. This level of autism is what caused the Protestant Reformation, but Roman Catholics will never see it..

HIS ARGUMENT IS CORRECT; MASTURBATION IS THE VILEST, MOST PERVERSE TYPE OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY; IT IS TOTAL WASTE OF ENERGY.

THE «PROTESTANT» DEFORMATION WAS REALIZED PER A CONJUNCTION OF POLITICAL, AND RELIGIOUS, FACTORS; «PROTESTANTISM» IS POSED IN THEOLOGICAL ANTITHESIS TO CATHOLICISM IN PRO OF DESTROYING CHRISTENDOM, NOT IN CONTRATHESIS TO IN PRO OF AMEND IT, OR IMPROVE IT, AS, APPARENTLY, YOU ARE IMPLYING.

You utterly misunderstand the significance of "natural" in "natural law", which is ironic for a Catholic. It is "natural" because it accords with the nature or essence bestowed upon us by God. It is the nature of a human to be a rational animal and the nature of sexual intercourse to produce offspring.

Indeed. Any conception of what is "natural" that doesn't take into account final causality is mistaken. Natural law is inherently teleological, any conception of "nature" in materialistic terms that considers nature as random events caused by impersonal universal forces has no relevance to natural law considered with an eye to nature having an inbuilt purpose and end for which it's created and that the natural operation of being is to fulfil the end for which it was created in accordance with Gods design, it's Logoi.

I UNDERSTAND, AND IT IS BECAUSE OF THAT THAT I CAN COMPREHEND THAT «NATURAL» IS MISNOMINAL WHEN WHAT IS MEANT IS: «ESSENTIAL».

THE REFERENT OF «NATURAL» IS NATURE; NATURE IS NOT EQUIVALENT WITH ESSENCE; NATURE IS THE SYSTEM BY WHICH THE KOSMOS FUNCTIONS.

It is a mortal sin and engaging it it always invokes lustful projections of women to which if we take Christ seriously, is no different than adultery with the object and general fornication by extension. 2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

This is hilarious. How would you know the "final causality" of things in general, first of all, and as a Catholic who otherwise maintains such things are unknowable? Phenomenology in the sense of quantitative bookkeeping, which I think is where Catholic Epistemology begins and ends on the matter, would make one conclude that the "final causality" of the Catholic Church is pedophilia and massacres. I myself am intellectually honest enough to rebuke both the method and the conclusion, despite relishing the irony. How about you?
