I think that depends on where you draw the line, many "normal horror" writers would include unsettling imagery that might evoke a reaction similar to yours, while for shock based horror literature can have nothing shocking in it. There isn't really a divide imo. As for whetehr or not it's better, I said I dropped it after the first sentence so I can't say iff it's better in terms of quality, but it's a great read. Since you're starting out I don't know if I'd suggest that as a entry piece to horror, I think reading through picrel from left to right, row by row might be a good idea if you wanna get into horror literature.
