Where can I find real, loyal, human beings?

I don't know about human beings, but there are a lot of lonely canine beings out there just waiting to be loyal to someone. How about starting with them?

In just about everybody. Psychopaths are the only people truly incapable of loyalty, and even then they're the easiest to understand and manipulate. They just need to feel control and attention.
The rule of loyalty is "you first."

Most superficial relationships (i.e. 'most' relationships under the most common type of relationship overall) are basically sociopathic in nature, where there is very limited trust and they are primarily pragmatic or transactional in nature.

There are none left. "This is the Kali Yuga. There will be no supports." Go beyond nihilism and contingency, my friend.
>>16871861
What you are speaking of is more accurately described as attachment rather than loyalty. The "psychopaths" in your example would also include every being capable of true loyalty, since they treasure it deeply and are unlikely to easily give it. Most "loyalty" today is just a loyalty of convenience that will melt in the first serious trial.

I agree with you, but that's not to say there's not a potential for loyalty there.
Put the team on your back a couple times and show genuine interest in the people around you and you can get a small following of loyalty.
Earnest Shackleton is a great example of this. His crew got stuck on the south pole for months but they all survived because of how he managed to create a culture of loyalty out of just people he went down there with

I have found it strange how weak and shallow bonds are today, fairweather friendships and backstabbing everywhere. I thought it might be due to social media/technology making people see others as disposable, as well as weakened social institutions, but I'm sure the causes are more complex than that. I'm a very loyal and forgiving person, but I've started to develop trust issues, it sucks.

>> No.16872594

It's because transcendental values basically no longer exist. Consult this post. >>16872110 After the second fall, even ideas of honour and fidelity lose their meaning in a transactional world. The bourgeois universe knows moralism, but not virtue in the true sense, as it was original understood.

>> No.16872642

Read abolition of man by CS Lewis. He saw the death of Transcendental values approaching, like >>16872594 says. He also correctly diagnosed the problem as originating in education getting rid of the values as "superfluous." He's always a good read when struggling.

The virtue of modernity is pursuit of truth. Even when philosophy shows the impossibility of truth it does so in it's pursuit. People are willing to abandon rationalism but always in pursuit of truth.

>> No.16872978

>>16872847
You can't say that it's a virtue of "modernity", though - it's perhaps a virtue valid during modernity, but it's also valid during every other age. With that said, you do have a point - the Dharma expected from the upright man during the Kali Yuga is the Dharma of truth and honesty iirc. Nothing else is required in this age.

I may have worded my post too strongly. I see people as individuals and fundamentally good, and I've kept up some quality, long-standing friendships. I've just had some poor experiences over the past few years. I lost my mother to cancer and learned who my genuine friends were. One of my oldest friends kept refusing to support me in any way, even while I was supported him with his opioid problems. I made several new friends last year, but I saw them suddenly turn against one of the group, ostracize and replace them due to gossip. I was the only person who stuck with them after that. People gossiped about me too. All the friends turned out to be situational, and I dont think I could really consider them my friends anymore.
