If I am invited to the home of a so-called philosopher, which happens regularly, and actually make the effort to go there, which is quite rare, maybe because the cook has a good reputation and a free meal is in prospect, the first thing I do is to go to his library and examine the condition of his Wittgenstein books. If they turn out to be read, I can be sure I am dealing with a pseud. The point of Wittgenstein's philosophy is not to read his books, but to put them in the cupboard unread.

I knew a guy who deliberately bent his books back and forth and left them in his office so people would think he'd read them. As soon as you talked to him about anything serious (e.g. Beyond Good And Evil), he'd shrivel up and make every second word an affirmative. He got fired for incompetence later. Good times.
