I recently ordered „The Histories“ from my local bookstore. Pic related is the edition I got. My problem is that it looks different than the one I originally intended to order. I mean the Penguin edition that has a colored cover. The one I got also has fewer pages and I can’t find it online.
Is this version fine or should I try to get the one I see posted everywhere?

OP here. I have a similar problem with the edition of „Notes from Underground and The Double“ that I ordered from the same bookstore. It only has 291 pages while the official Penguin shop says it has 352 pages.

This is the beginning of Notes. I noticed that instead of „I am“ it says „I‘m“. The quality of the pages also seems off compared to an actual original edition I have laying here.

That cover is from the very new line of penguin classics, I started seeing them in stores earlier this year. I don't own any so I can only speculate but I would guess there is a different in text size or in the introduction length or something.

This is the only image I could find that shows the differences, but note the title not being orange and the line between author and title in the far right one

If the edition you ordered was pic related then I would say likely no, it's just just a newer edition and they decided to remove the color from the cover image for some unknown reason. If the edition you ordered looked like your cover but in color then maybe.

I actually the Penguin Deluxe edition of Herodotus and it's quite nice
Its a normal size instead of a text book like landmark, translation by Tom Holland is great, and has plenty of maps in the back.
