"For him that stealeth a Book from this Library, let it change to a Serpent in his hand and rend him. Let him be struck with Palsy, and all his Members blasted. Let him languish in Pain, crying aloud for Mercy and let there be no surcease to his Agony till he sink to Dissolution. Let Book-worms gnaw his Entrails in token of the Worm that dieth not, and when at last he goeth to his final Punishment let the Flames of Hell consume him for ever and aye."

bolano said he best remembers the books he stole at ages 16-18 in mexico. ops pic is shit btw dont waste ur time. I've stolen quite a few, there is this really nice place near where i used to live its a book farm, theres a very nice cafe in side. its an old wooden barn its very cosy they sell books quite cheap and the idea is people bring in old stacks of books and I think they buy them from you. inside of there they have a glass cabinet with rare books inside. anyway theres a 2nd building which houses books all of which cost £1 so being the skinflint I am i went there once and just put a few in my rucksack then left. All the books there are mostly old clothbound hardbacks. i finagled ivanhoe, faust, practical knowledge for all vol 1 and shakespeares complete comedies . i was camping near there at the start of the year and got chased from the woodland by one of the farmers so i decided to go in there I spent £12 on a hot chocolate and a toasty so I can justify the theft

pic unrelated

A girl once said that she'd give me her favourite book if I managed to give her the best sex of her life, she did give it to me but then regretted the sex.
Does it count as theft?

I got Chuck Palahniuk to sign a book at some bookstore reading and then I stole it.
He refuses to simply sign his name. He always personalizes the inscription so he has control over the autographed-copy upsales.
I truly despise that faggot.

I stole some books from a couple local libraries as a kid, but later when I donated books to local libraries I learned these places just sell your donations at their bi-annual fairs and stock the shelves with YA and romance novels. If I returned the books I stole they'd probably end up sold for a dollar or pulped. Libraries are going to shit.

There's a niche criminal specialty that involves stealing rare editions from venerable University libraries and selling them on the used market. I spent a lot of money on a rare copy of a Campbell book only to find a University of Michigan Library stamp in the inside blank pages. This has happened with two other rare books I've bought.

I feel bad about stealing these books, and about receiving the stolen property. But when it comes to libraries theft is looking more and more like a rescue operation.

Yeah I have a few from my high school library.
Interesting story about the Book Thief: I have owned at least 3 copied of the book but have never bought it myself. I think each copy I owned would get damaged and someone would buy me a replacement randomly. There was one point where I had two copies so I gave the other away.
