yfw you realize every song sung, every poem written, and any piece of art created out of affection for someone else (love), are just artistic manifestations of chemical signals in the brain.

Love does not exist, hormones in your body saying "Shit man, she has large breasts to nourish many children, and wide hips too! I'm sending you some pleasing signals so you stay with her until you make children."

This realization that every romantic aspect of my existence is just signals from my brain is extremely disheartening. We're all just machines, doing what our bodies have developed to do.

Fucking hell.

You seem to think there's something wrong with being an amazingly complicated machine. There really isn't.

o rely?! and you have just now reached that conclusion?
Next thing you'll be telling us we'll all die someday.

Pick one. They're mutually exclusive.

>> No.1685143

Not just love, everything is just signals in our brain. I know it's awesome but it has nothing to do with literature.

Chemical signals are hardly love you doofus.

Fuck you fabulous, the only thing you love is a pulsing cock between your tonsils.

>> No.1685171

Whether or not I know how my body works, it still amazes me that such a machine can be created over thousands of years. Whether or not I understand in full how the brain works, it doesn't mean I can't appreciate how fucking awesome love feels. When you're in love, or in other intense emotions, how the chemicals in your brain are moving around really isn't a concern - you just ride the wave of emotion, maaaan

But its just chemicals...how can you not feel empty when you realize all the feelings you have for someone you 'love' are just chemicals?

Of course love is chemical signals, you absolute pillock. Just because love isn't MAJYCK, but, in fact, explainable, doesn't mean it's not love.

By that statement, I'm tentatively concluding you have not been in love. You can't feel empty cause you're too busy being in love and fucking all the time, friend

>> No.1685185

Let's provide an analogous example.
I love computer games. I feel like I get to explore entire other worlds when I play them. One day, I determine that the worlds in my computer games do not exist materially, and in fact what I'm seeing is a complex series of simulations, derived from mathematical formulae and ultimately reducible to patterns of activation across a semiconductor.

The video games still exist.
I still experience and explore the worlds.
There was never anything corresponding to what I refer to as "material" existence of those worlds.

Everything you have ever experienced of love is still exactly where you left it.

>But that love is a product of biology/evolution and not in my own control.
Before you realized that love is a physical phenomenon, you believed that you were in control of who you fall in love with? I find that hard to believe.

>> No.1685199

>>1685185
Not that I wasnt in control of who I fall in love with, that love wasn't any deeper than chemicals.

You body says "Yo dawg you've got to reproduce man, I'm going to send you some signals."

That sucks man.

Your body does not have intentions. Neither do your hormones or neurotransmitters. Intentions are an abstraction that we use to explain our actions. You act on your inclinations, as you always have. Once, you tried to fuck because you were horny. You did not control the horniness, but it felt like yours, so you went with it. Now, you've learned that the horniness is evolutionarily adaptive and physically driven, and that makes you feel like you're being controlled. You aren't. Evolution doesn't have intentions. It can't plan. It's an explanation for patterns we see in behavior and genetic change over time. Whether you did or didn't understand the mechanism for horniness (or the noticeably distinct sensation of emotional attachment), you were always subject to your emotions, and never manipulated by them.
