Anybody ordered books from them during COVID? How was it?

Mine always come damaged from UK Skymail. Rolled up like cardboard tacos. Key reason for switching to Ereader. If I can't get nice editions to begin with, why hoard paper?

I bought three books. After some time without notice they refunded to me. A month later one came, another month passed and other book came. So I got two books for free.

It was really good surprisingly. I live all the way in Australia yet all the books I’ve ordered from the UK have come on time and in very good condition. One of my books did get damaged after the postman left it outside on the foot of my door without knocking to tell me and it rained. When I emailed book depository about it, they refunded me in full even though it technically wasn’t their fault.

Takes longer than Amazon. Not worth it unless Amazon doesn't have it imo.

It takes like forever for the books to arrive, but delivery is free and I have like 2000 in my library that I haven't read yet, so what's the fucking problem right? Just don't order anything you actually need within two months and you're golden. I mostly order sci-fi since I can get other English titles in used book shops and the like.

Considering books I wanted would cost me 60 euros in shipping through Amazon, BD is not a bad option. You will wait longer than usual (25-30 days in my case) but except that everything is fine.

Their costumer service is responsive and helpful.

It's worth it if you don't live in the states or in europe, the free delivery is very useful desu

>> No.16848833

Few times, amazon and alibris are better if youre an amerishart desu. Though sometimes they are oddly the cheapest option or have euro specific editions you may want

>> No.16849013

Their prices tend to fluctuate a lot and they give me a 10% coupon every now and then. I have a wishlist which I check to see if the prices have dropped and lurk a lot. Good deals sometimes and fast shipping to Belgium (around two weeks after ordering).

This. If you live in Australia it is the best. Unlike booktopia, they actually send you the copy you bought. Booktopia literally sends you a penguin if they don't have the oxford in stock. I've paid more for a certain copy and they have sent me a lower priced version. It's fucked.

I would normally use them instead of amazon, they're very good

Ordered one yesterday. It takes 10-20 to my country but if they deliver its fantastic for the price. A lot cheapest than buying here

>> No.16851296

I did a week ago because the English release date for the book was several months earlier than locally. The guide said 10-15 business days so if I have it before Christmas it will be worthwhile.

I've bought 150 or so books in the time of COVID. I've ordered them around the world (US, Poland, Italy, Japan etc) from big vendors like BookDepo to independent sellers. Despite living in a tiny European country I've yet to lose a single book.
You'll be just fine, bud.

Everything I ordered arrived in reasonable times. Two books did get lost on the way, but their customer service was really nice and gave me full refund. One book showed traces of being wet at some point, it was even the only one packaged in plastic bag in addition to usual envelope, but the quality wasn't ruined that much, so I said nothing. Not like it was some fancy book anyway.

A lot depends on your national postal service I think. Belgium's is bad for a first world country, they say 10% of the parcels from black friday to Christmas won't be delivered and you'll have to come get them yourself. It's made me hesitant to order stuff online.

If you buy any sort of lesser popular books from them what happens is they print it on demand for you, this can be a negative because I don't feel like the paper they use is that good. Also because they ship their books in cardboard, you're going to have a bad time if it gets exposed to rain anywhere along the way. Though how much of an issue that is depends on how good your local post service is.

Also Book Depository is owned by Amazon for anyone who didn't know.

That explains so much. I've read such varying reviews (dreadful service or amazing service) and the weird trend where some complained about the quality of the print. I always wondered why they had such niche titles. Thanks, I don't think I'll be buying any less known titles from them. Also, why do they have such weird small or random discounts, 46%, 3%, 11%, so on and so forth.
