i used to work in a gift/art supplies/office supplies/bookstore and i'd special order stuff and take it home without paying. management treated us like shit so i had no regrets. but that's workplace theft. i've never shoplifted. i download tons of books from the interwubs. when i have a real apartment, i will buy the books i love and have a big library.

I've stolen books from people's houses but never from a bookstore.

I took a copy of Catcher in the Rye from a booksamillion once so i would have something to read before a movie i was going to see.

I stole some books from my school one. I had an English teacher who was really, really annoying, and a total bitch. But, she had some interesting books on the shelf, so I just took 'em. I just sort of walked out with them.

I also stole one of those Pokemon books back when I was like, ten or something from a bookstore.

On the walk to/from work there is a bookstore that has some books outside in front of the store. I've always been tempted to steal one.

Probably well over $300 worth of books from Barnes and Nobles. What can I say, I like to read, am fairly poor, and still do support my local bookstore.

I stole a first edition copy of Frankenstein from my anatomy teacher senior year of high school. The stupid fucker just left it out in the open. I normally wouldn't resort to theft in a non-desperate situation, but he was a complete asshole.

Plus, that's a real old copy of Frankenstein. A first edition copy of the novel is about 193 years old, you could easily get $10 for it.

I stole almost 10 books from a library because I was moving.

I also never return books to people when I borrow them because we both forget.

When I was really poor I shoplifted books all the time, especially expensive books, like anything published by The Library of America. That's how I have the collected works of Cheever, Carver, and Hammett!

I took The Age of Reason by Sartre from a secondhand bookshop without paying for it. I bought seven or eight other books at the time and that one just slipped in without me noticing. Then I read it and a guy steals a book from a bookshop.
