Does /lit/ write love poems? I've been writing some cheesy ones to some girl (possible online gf?) who apparently loves it (or is lying to me), but in the back of my head, they feel so cheesy and not the best. How do I get gud at love poems?

I did when I was 13. Not so much now.

yeah, I got drunk and wrote one for her and now she wants more and more. I'm not complaining, she's cute and I like writing, but man I don't want to keep giving cheesy shit.

Being cheesy is part of the charm

If nothing else you will be well prepared for the far more interesting genre of break up poetry

I'm down, I always figured that I needed some deeper depression to unlock my creative talents anyway.

Don't let her bitch you up. Once you've lost frame, you're a cute little plaything. A doormat. Don't be a calloused prick, but don't be a puppet either. You have to alternate hot and cold whenever necessary. They enjoy being taken for a ride where you're steering the vessel.

And god forbid, if you're actually attached to this girl already, I wish you the best of luck and hope you don't get hurt

Read poems that you like and want to emulate, for inspiration.

By all means, write a poem. But he clearly seems hesitant judging by the 'this feels cheesy' remark. He should do whatever he thinks is appropriate, not what he thinks is expected of him.

Man I just do it for fun, if I was busy I wouldn't do it obviously. Take a chill pill.

And to remain topical: You have to have experience with love to write about it. It's a universal essence, either directed towards self or other. The more experience you have, the more subtle you can be. Noobs write about the same exact things--comparisons to oceans and flowers and a lover's eyes. Go deeper than that. Pretend that you're writing it to yourself if you have to, it will have the same appearance as if you wrote it to somebody else. Sometimes it's easier that way

Just do what I did - read the Greek Anthology in prose translation and then freely versify the ones you like. Makes for good practice!

Also, just plagiarize 12th century troubadour poems. If you pick translations from sheet music you will avoid your thefts thebeing Googleable.
