Its why the number of speakers of quechua in Bolivia and Peru is still declining because Spanish is the prestige language. When I speak of prestige languages. Im referring to linguistic stratum relationships within a country. In the USA, English is the Prestige language. In Mexico, Spanish is the prestige language. In these contexts, im not saying that English is or more prestigious than Spanish on the whole. Only in Anglophone countries. If I were to move back to Argentina then I would speak español (castellano) more and have to know it for work as it is the language of prestige there.

It's more of a "compromise language". Sure, it's needed for high-end jobs, but it lacks the connotations of making a language native to a part of India commonplace everywhere. This is especially a problem in the South, where the languages are from a different family entirely from the North. English serves a language that everyone can use without the accusation of culture erasing.
