Union of Soviet Writers was the most powerful organization of writers in the Soviet Union. Membership was effectively mandatory for anyone who wished to make a living as a writer. Large scale publishing was only possible through their approval and they were effectively the official censor of the literary works in the Soviet Union. To go against their orders was to choose professional suicide as an author.

I think more nations would benefit from such a Creative Union. I think you should join one.

Members of the Union were political sluts and sucked the Communist Party dick. The whole Union was created and financed by the Communist Party. You would never be a member of this organisation if you didn't support the Party or had some works that criticized their way, or publicly mentioned something that the Party wouldn't like.
