16797148 No.16797148 [Reply] [Original]

First 12 replies to this thread get to choose a book for me to spend a credit on

1 credit = 1 book

Some of my favorite books are Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, The Plague by Albert Camus, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, In the House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, and Stoner by John Williams

I would prefer literary fiction from the past 50 years but I’ll buy and reply with a screenshot (if I’m still awake and the thread is still up when you reply) for literally any book that gets posted in the first 12 responses, with the exception of books in the public domain that I can easily listen to for free instead

If you guys want to make me buy 12 diet books for women over 50, so be it. I will buy Jake Paul's autobiography if that is the will of the board. If you want me to kill myself and leave 4Chan forever, leave a reply with a book about how to commit suicide and I will buy it.

But you'd rather be nice, wouldn't you? Try and make my dumb brain smarter

There's two different narrators depending on what book you're reading but I think Colin Mace (who does the first book anyway) is perfectly cast

The other guy had a younger, more snide voice but that actually works for younger flashman in a way

Get any of the Great Courses classes by Leo Damrosch. He has The Rise Of The Novel, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (about the book), and The Enlightenment Invention of the Modern Self. All highly comfy. The only criticism is he kind of repeats himself a little on the novel one and the modern self one because both have lectures about Liaisons Dangereuses (he apparently likes this book and considers it important), but they are different enough that it doesn't matter. He has some books on there too, but not as comfy cuz they aren't read by him.
