Depends on what you're interested in. Law is a very broad topic.
If you're into Roman Law, Max Kaser has a good manual on that, which you can compliment with Mommsen's history of Rome.
If you are into philosophy of law, Hart, Radbruch, Kelsen, Aquinas, Aristotle, etc.
I also had to read Sabine's History of Political Thought while at university.

Unironically, start with that chapter on whaling laws in Moby Dick. It is always referenced at least once during your intro or phi of Law courses. After that you should find some history of Law, starting at least as far back as Roman law. Ancient Laws by Henry Summer Maine is *very* good here.
Otherwise, the obvious ones are the Leviathan, Montesquieu's Spirit of Laws and Kojeve's Phenomenology of Law. I could make a more comprehensive list if you wanted, it's been over a decade since I've had to brush on my phi of Law stuff, but I still have all my notes somewhere.

law changes from country to country so you will have to be more specific. you could spend half a decade studying law in a german university and it would mean fuck all if you move to the US for example

It's dry and not very insightful. Wouldn't recommend reading about law unless you're a lawyer.
Go study ethics instead.

Hard to recommend stuff because most reading materials in law school are either textbooks, case law, or law review articles. I liked Dworkin for jurisprudence but I probably would have found it impenetrable if I wasn't immersed in the subject at the time.
