You can buy an alpha smart for like $10. Best way to write

You have to buy them second hand since they've stopped producing them. The wear and tear, along with their age, means that they have some pretty bad corruption problems and you can lose files. If they started making them again, I'd agree, but comparing an Alphasmart to a Freewrite isn't correct.

The price is so outrageous that I simply cannot fathom how this isn’t a joke. I would consider 200 or 300 to be still too expensive, but at least believable. But 600? How?

Does /lit/ just like to hate things for no reason? This is a fine device. Lightweight, distraction free writing. Nobody is forcing you to use it.
>Just use paper
Yea you could but maybe you want your writing in a digital format. It seems like this is meant to be used in tandem with a computer. You type on this and transfer the file to a pc.

it's a good idea for a product. the majority of us are simply taking issue with the price

$600 is steep, true. You could probably just buy a chromebook and put it on airplane mode for much less. Would also cut out the need for a second device to actually edit the text. This product is kind of stupid now that I think about it more.

shit like this reminds me of the old dude from Point-Counterpoint who tried to write a book for 20 fucking years but couldnt do it so he rationalized his failure by buying useless piece of equipement to "aid" his writing.

It's because the type of person who would buy this is very weak-willed.
>Oh darn I could be writing the next Ulysses! But my computer and it's internet is distracting me from my genius! If only there was a way I could use a computer but not have access to the internet
Lmao all you need is a modicum of self-will and you can ignore modern dopamine distractions. These people are weak-willed sheep.

If you see the price tag and start seething, you're not the intended audience.

Get a second-hand old ThinkPad model, they have pretty comfy keyboards.

The BEST thing would be an incredibly sturdy and well-built smallish laptop with a manageable keyboard and excellent battery life.
