"Der Schimmelreiter" from Theodor Storm. Its a great novelle but one of the best things is the style it is written in. The book came out in 1888 and for me it was very interesting to see how they wrote back then. But I read the original in german so I dont know how it translates in other languages. You should give it a try nonethless!
