Christianity exists by its ability to give the gifts (sacraments) that Christ gave, the responsibility for which was entrusted to the Apostles. Luther had Apostolic succession, so in essence there is a small minority of Christianity in Lutheranism. In the broad scheme however he led to one of the largest waves of apostasy we are still reeling from.
