I have a nasty habit were I start thinking about real life stuff when trying to read a book, then I get into a phase were I'm reading the book but I'm not processing the words because I'm too busy thinking about shit going on.

Whatever anon I read math for several hours a day. Very proud of myself and I'm hopefully going to break math, logic and the sciences for predicational monism. Have several leads

Why did you do this to my thread?

sorry for the derailing you fucking faggot.

real answer is:
if you have trouble concentrating for a long time, you need to practice. reading long text is a skill like any other, so form a schedule to train it.

read daily, and read until you are tired but don't push yourself over that limit because 1) you won't be able to retain information and 2) you're further alienating yourself from reading because of your growing frustration

be sure to refresh your concentration by taking a break if you feel like, i'm not actually reading the information written.

don't stress yourself and acknowledge your physical limitations at this moment in time.

if you're unfocussed because you get distracted by other things: remove the distractions.

by other thoughts: attend to those thoughts or teach yourself to shut out those thoughts. it can help to verbalise, either in your mind or out loud things like "i am now focussing on [this task], i will think about [other things] later".

if they're thoughts that are relevant to your life reality, fucking address them. deal with them because clearly you're occupied by them and don't really have the capacity to read and take in new information because your brain is telling you "solve this problem".

basically: just read.
i have the same problem and i can only solve it by concentrating really hard in the first few lines, while the whole rest of it comes naturally

>> No.16723164

Stop thinking. Just picture your thoughts as clouds passing overhead for a moment before bringing yourself back.

Somehow I knew it would either be this or ADD meds. I haven't tried drinking and reading which is a stereotype. The best solution for my problems atm is to grit my teeth and bide my time, which is a just painful thing to do.

>>16723164
I might try this.

dont revert to crutches, it's a retarded thing to depend on if you DEPEND on it and dont use substances as a way to expand your reception of literature.

just work up to it, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, half an hour. you can do it anon!

>> No.16723212

For something a bit more fundamental, if you've lost the spark in between books then just read an easier secondary and take a couple days break.
