You likely got it through osmosis from other sources which were influenced by whatever work you just read.

This has happened to me so many times that I'm convinced that reading philosophy is almost a complete waste of time.

I have a creeping belief that most of these acclaimed philosophers are actually quite stupid and their conclusions are very far from being even slightly impressive (to me, maybe normie retards find it enlightening because they can't think independently to save their lives).

It's not that their ideas are original, it's that they won the branding contest (or were awarded those spots for political reasons in later academic canons) to be associated with those ideas. Foucalt is a good example; he's mostly useful for showing how important his ideas are to the current academic world, rather than that he's any kind of genius for his AIDS rambling

This happened to me with one of Socrates' opening statements in The Republic, that "appearance has more force than reality.

I had vaguely felt this for years as I found out that for people to trust/back you, you have to say what they seem to think is right. That an audience can be swayed be saying what "seems" right. Similarly if someone mistakenly blames you for something you didn't cause, even if later on you can show to them that it isn't your fault and they agree, already that person's view of you is stained/tainted in a negative way. The concept of marketing also comes to mind.

I think it helps to articulate the ideas, and also it's helpful to apply them to different areas.

I also notice a lot of philosophers saying the same thing as other philosophers, and some non-philosophers. (maybe I just misunderstand them though)

Imagine believing you arrived at those conclusions, completely neglecting the ocean of ideas you are constantly immersed in.

>> No.16720989

>>16719849
if you had those beliefs beforehand, how come you hadn't articulated them prior to reading the work in question? Perhaps it is because the challenge isn't gathering the belief or holding it, but expressing it in an articulate fashion so that you can discuss it with others.

Not that guy, but I'm pretty sure i arrived independrntly at the dialectical method as it is exposed in PoS (although not as it is developed in the Science of Logic).
I mean, the thought behind it is not that arcane. If I think that skepticism towards certain claims is justified, I'm assuming positive claim which grounds my own skepticism (i.e. if I think that we should be skeptical about the existence of an outer world, as solipsist do, then I am making a positive claim about my epistemic faculties). Since that ground can be doubted too, absolute skepticism becomes impossible. What you get instead is a philosophical system based on negative determinations. I think most people can reach these conclusions independently (although developing them as well as Hegel did is a whole different story)
