There are some good suggestions, so yes - maybe getting a good annotated edition of the Iliad is the best way of starting with the Greeks

The thriller Neuropath is actually a decent summary of the implications of neuroscience and philosophy of mind. Quick read.

IDK, I listened to the Great Courses Great Ideas of Western Philosophy and read Durrant's Story of Philosophy at the same time and came away with a surface level knowledge.

There are many valid starting points, just remember that philosophy is about reasoning through the problems yourself. Your reading must be active. If you don't challenge what you're reading and looking to find mistakes in it, you're doing it wrong.

>>16685336
Secondary background literature and histories of philosophy are useful, you'll find that they greatly enhance your understanding of original texts (even Homer will inform your reading of Greek philosophers). That being said, they are obviously no substitute and don't delay jumping into Plato and Aristotle for too long.
>>16685281
This here is a great place to start as far as original texts go. You don't need any prerequisites for it and you can gain confidence by poking holes in his arguments, which isn't hard.
>>16686043
Good place to start as well. It gets you reasoning about relevant philosophical problems very quickly.
