I used to smoke nicotine. I thought that was helping me but really it was more of a distraction unless I was chainsmoking.

Now I smoke very small quantities of ganja, think like 1/4th of a bowl. This prevents my short term memory from getting shot and keeps me in a contemplative mood. Reading like this is ultra comfy for me.

If you really must smoke nicotine while reading, a long cigar is really the way to go. You don't have to constantly relight and empty it like a pipe and you can really gnaw on it for extra juice. I recomend a nice Romeo y Julieta as your starter.

I do a fair amount of writing while smoking much larger quantities of bud. Paired with adderall it can be a real eye opener but if you don't have ADHD, don't blow out your heart and opt for colossal doses of caffeine instead.

I occasionally like to smoke both pipes and cigars, but pipes do take a lot more 'nursing' and relights to keep them going. This is typically while drinking some spiked coffee as well, and after about half an hour or reading, the miniaturized speedball mixture of caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol kicks in and I start to write a page or two of the only decent thing I'll come up with that week.
