What do you find beautiful? Is it something that is flourishing and ornate, or more bare bones and hardy? Or perhaps something with a particular look not often seen. What expressions or moods are beautiful?

Joel Peter Witkin's style is so ugly but distinct that it really makes you wonder who something so fucking gross can look so fucking cool.

i kind of bought the idea you get from basically all modern mainstream media, that women's bodies are made to be looked at and men's bodies are pretty much inherently less pleasing to the eye, until my freshman art history survey class when i was like "has my permavirginity reached new depths, or are some of these statues kind of sexy"

Homoeroticism has fallen out of the eye of the mainstream in favor of the more abstract. There is nothing wrong with finding you your gender beautiful, because you can look like them too. And thinking of yourself as beautiful is perfectly acceptable.

One of the most amazing experiences in my life had to be being in the Louvre statue garden. I don't know what exactly it is about them, but I find statues to be phenomenal. Anatomy fascinates me and the amount of detail, action, and emotion they can capture is impressive. The technical skill required is also something to be inspired by. Sort of unrelated, but impressionist style artwork is also a favorite. Something about the blurry look to them.

I'm going to post some of my favorite statues from the Louvre and the Orsay cause it's late and I'm bored.

I think you are thinking of the "Girl with the Pearl Earring" painting. This is the one I'm talking about. It certainly lacks the impressiveness of the sculptures, but there is something about the strokes and colors that could let me stare at it for ever.

Well, I'm calling it a night.

I think that living things are by far the most beautiful because they are the most complex. The molecules that make up a living organism can behave in a way that no other molecules can.
