He's got some good stuff. The level of hype he has reached in the last decade has been a bit weird, and caused no end of tedious discussions about racism and all that crap, which is annoying.
Pulp author who had to churn out work to feed himself who nevertheless managed a pretty unique style and has an impressive legacy. Admirable /10.

Important and cool, but not that amazing to read.
If I want early weird, I'd go for Robert Chambers.
If I want later weird I go for PKD or Thomas Ligotti.
But some of his stories are good. A favourite from 10-15 and thereafter.

The greatest. Most of his stories are fantastic. Some like Ex Oblivione are beautiful

I don't know if it's his way of writing or the atmosphere or the worldbuilding, but his stories are very comfy. I listen to these audiobooks on a regular basis:

Shub-Niggurath is my favorite eldritch horror

Is there an ending to his literary universe? Like does Azathoth wake up or are things just unresolved

Some of the "horror" of his work is lost on modern readers. Nearly every story of his has a white 'intellectual' (usually a scientist or doctor) as the protagonist and part of the horror of the story is the white intellectual who thinks that he has the entire world figured out, coming in contact with a "cosmic horror" which leads him into coming to the horrific conclusion that he, in fact, does not have the entire world figured out. This is Lovecraft's sense of WASP superiority that seeps into almost every single one of his stories.

Never read Lovecraft. Any suggestions in where to start?

Dagon and Polaris.

>> No.16629153

Great but compared to his influences he’s highly derivative.

Read Dunsany, MR James, Blackwood and Poe and you basically have all the components you could possibly like from lovecraft but maximized by themselves.

>Lovecraft isnt as good as I used to think, his scenes are very static
how do you respond?

Huge fan.

Not necessarily the stories, more the racism.

Did King say this? Proves how retarded he is, Lovecraft's prose was always garbage. No one cares.
