I actually really enjoyed the books but I read them at a time when I assumed they were going to finish, theirs no point blue-balling yourself when GRRM inevitably eats himself to death before finishing them.

Listen to the audiobooks of the first three by Roy Dotrice. The fourth and fifth books are mediocre at best, and the audiobook versions are awful (Roy started going senile around then).

Roy Dotrice died last year or something. Big rip, the voices were inconsistent between books for the same characters but having different voices is helpful.
