In Judaism (the accurate interpretation of the text) it is heavily discouraged, but absolved after the fact in most cases. The only instance appearing in the Tanakh is the death of Saul.

Job, Moses, Jonas. These three prophets, at some point wanted God to kill them. So even if it's a sin, it's not the worst one as it's sometimes made out to be.

Strawman. I find the Joel Osteen comment to be abhorrent: the dude's misleading thousands with false doctrine. Camel through eye of a needle is literal- don't make up arguments and then refute them and act as if you've bested me. I study tradition but take these analyses within their own context as well. An example is that a lot of (very early) Church Fathers had an thing for "discovering" increasing degrees of abstraction and metaphor, even if some of these allegorical understandings were divorced from the context the original audience was in.
Don't take me for a retard Protestant type. I don't believe in the idea that "Athens has nothing to do with Jerusalem." There have been many genius thinkers over the history of the Church, but these thinkers are not inspired writers, and so one has to parse what they say with that in mind.
